The Hoosiers didn’t relinquish the lead for the rest of the half and led by as many as 13. Indiana’s offense was crisp and efficient throughout the first 20 minutes. Rice was 6-for-7 from the field for 17 first-half points. Mackenzie Mgbako continued his stellar start to his sophomore season with 12 first-half points. And Kanaan Carlyle had seven points, including a corner 3 and an alley-oop off of a Rice pass that brought the Assembly Hall crowd to its feet. By intermission, Indiana’s lead was 11 at 43-32.

South Carolina couldn’t get closer than 11 early in the second half and the Hoosiers stretched the lead to 18 at 62-44 with 10:46 to go on a Trey Galloway 3-pointer. Collin Murray-Boyles, the leading scorer for the Gamecocks, fouled out with 8:16 to play after just scoring two points. By the under-eight media timeout, Indiana led South Carolina 69-55. The Hoosiers then went stagnant offensively and South Carolina chipped away to make it a nine-point game at the final media timeout. Indiana, however, was able to close the game out with solid free throw shooting down the stretch. South Carolina never got closer than nine as the Hoosiers moved to 3-0 with a solid non-conference home win.
