Sam Houston transfer Lamar Wilkerson commits to Indiana
Sam Houston transfer Lamar Wilkerson, a first-team All-Conference USA selection last season, announced his commitment to Indiana on Tuesday.
Wilkerson also had interest from Kentucky, Auburn, Ole Miss and several other high-major programs. He visited Indiana and Kentucky prior to announcing his decision.
The 6-foot-5, 205-pound guard has one season of eligibility remaining. He played three seasons at Sam Houston and began his career at Three Rivers College. Wilkerson is a native of Ashdown, Arkansas.
Wilkerson played in 32 games last season for the Bearkats – all starts – and averaged 20.5 points, four rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals in 34.9 minutes per game. He shot 44.5 percent on 3s and made 3.4 3-pointers per game. He also shot 82.2 percent from the free-throw line.
The Conference USA star scored in double figures every game for Sam Houston and scored a career-high 32 points against New Mexico State on March 8. He was 7-for-10 on 3s in a 76-69 win. Wilkerson made a career-high eight 3-pointers against Texas Southern on December 7. He had 16 games of 20 or more points.
Wilkerson ranked seventh nationally in 3-point field goal percentage and 13th in made 3-point field goals (109). He is a career 40 percent 3-point shooter.
In Sam Houston’s 97-71 loss to Indiana on December 3, 2024 in Bloomington, Wilkerson finished with 18 points, three rebounds and three assists.
Over three seasons at Sam Houston, Wilkerson had career averages of 13.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 27.3 minutes per game. He started 63 of the 95 games he played in for the Bearkats.

2023-24: Was named first-team All-Conference USA after leading the regular season champion Bearkats to a 21-12 record and 13-3 league mark … led the team in scoring at 13.8 and made 52 3-point baskets (52 for 150, 34.7 percent) … scored a career-high 27 points in a win at Middle Tennessee (1/13/24) … had a career-high 4 rebounds in a win at Pacific (11/6/23) … finished with 23 double-digit scoring games … was named the CUSA Player of the Week after guiding Sam Houston to a three-game win streak during the week of Nov. 20-25. He began his week with a monster game to open the Trojan Classic at Troy, Alabama on Dec. 20 where he scored 25 points and grabbed six rebounds in an 88-86 overtime victory over host Troy. He followed that with 15 points in an 86-68 dismantling of Grambling on Nov. 22, and he also scored in double figures in limited action with 10 points when the Kats returned home to knock off Paul Quinn 78-61 on Nov. 25 at Johnson Coliseum. For the week, Wilkerson averaged 16.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
2022-23: Played in 30 games as a sophomore and averaged 7.6 points … was the hero in his Bearkat debut when he scored 17 points off the bench, along with three steals, that included a game-winning 3-pointer against Oklahoma (11/7/22) … followed up the next game with 15 points and five rebounds against Southwestern Adventist (11/10/22) … scored 15 points and grabbed four steals against NIU at the Fort Myers Tip-off (11/22/22) … scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds against Dallas Christian (12/3) … recorded a season-high 10 rebounds against Grand Canyon (1/5/23).
Three Rivers College: Wilkerson earned honorable mention All-American honors at Three Rivers this past season … averaged 16.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game … finished second in the Region XVI Player of the Year voting … shot 41 percent from 3-point range and 43 percent from the floor … scored 20 or more points nine times, including a season-high 31 in a six-point win over Marshalltown on Nov. 13 … also averaged 2.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
