Redshirt freshman guard Jakai Newton is out indefinitely following surgery, according to a release issued Wednesday afternoon by IU.

Here’s the full statement:

“Indiana redshirt freshman guardĀ Jakai Newton underwent successful surgery to treat an injury to his lower body. He will be out indefinitely but is expected to return this season. This injury is not related to the one he had prior to the start of the 2023-24 season.”

Newton missed the entire 2023-24 season due to an injury and has appeared in three games this season.

The Covington, Georgia native is averaging two points and 0.7 rebounds in 4.7 minutes per game.

He is the second Indiana guard to undergo surgery this season, joining sophomore Gabe Cupps who is likely out for the season.
