Film Session: Wisconsin
Later in the first half, Sam Dekker has the ball on the right wing. We see Yogi Ferrell marking Zak Showalter and Collin Hartman on Kaminsky on the weak side:
As Kaminsky moves through the lane, Hartman and Ferrell switch defensive assignments:
Ferrell, Indiana’s point guard, spent a lot of time fronting the 7-foot Kaminsky in the game. Here’s one example of that and there’s no entry pass because of it. Hartman is also watching out to come over and help should Kaminsky get a pass over the top towards the hoop:
But as the skip pass comes, Hartman’s closeout gives Showalter an angle to the rim:
As he comes down into the paint, Williams and Ferrell have switched and Williams now has Kaminsky:
Both Hartman and Williams look to ward off a Showalter shot, so he makes the pass to Kaminsky:
While Williams and Stanford Robinson try to alter the shot, Kaminsky’s length is just too much. He scores one of his several easy attempts in the paint on the evening:
Video:
While Ferrell did a solid job fronting Kaminsky, it was Hartman’s closeout where the defensive breakdown began and ended in an easy score for the seven-footer.
